Summary

In the PFLP’s Strategy, Arab reaction — represented by feudalism and capitalism and defended by reactionary Arab regimes — is the fourth force of the enemy camp, an offshoot of world Imperialism whose class interests depend on imperialism’s persistence and whose main conflict is with the masses’ movement (Strategy for the Liberation of Palestine, PDF p.35-37).

Details

  • Arab capitalism is not an independent capitalist unit and cannot assume independent political positions; it represents weak branches of world capitalism. Its millionaires — merchants, bankers, feudal lords, owners of large estates, kings, emirs and sheikhs — acquired their wealth through cooperation with world capitalism, as commercial agents, secondary shareholders in foreign banking and insurance, or heads of regimes defending colonial interests (PDF p.35).
  • Arab reaction may outwardly support superficial national movements to settle side conflicts with Israel or imperialism to its advantage, but is inevitably against any national liberation movement uprooting colonialism; the growth of the revolutionary mass movement is the growth of a people’s authority destroying its authority (PDF p.36).
  • Failing to classify Arab reaction as an enemy force means failing to take account of real enemy bases and forces living among the Palestinian and Arab people, capable of a diversionary role and of dealing the revolution a blow when the opportunity arises (PDF p.36-37).
  • On the Arab level, Arab capitalism and feudalism are the ruling class represented by the reactionary regimes in Jordan, Lebanon and certain other Arab countries, linked in interest with United States-led world imperialism; the Palestinian revolution’s strategic relation to those regimes is conflict, notwithstanding tactical positions (PDF p.72-73, p.83).
