Details
-
Falk quotes the end of his preface: “The victory against Israeli apartheid, colonialism, and racism that I am convinced the Palestinians and their allies have it within their power to make will not be theirs alone. It will belong to everyone who believes in, and fights for, equality and justice.” (PDF p.135)
-
Falk reads two messages in it: a potential Palestinian victory will come primarily from below, from the people, not through manoeuvrings from above by governments and special interests; and the Palestinian struggle is linked to the wider quest for justice and equality throughout the world (PDF p.135).
-
The Part 4 headnote closes by calling for solidarity “for the reasons Abunimah suggests, but humility about proposing what kind of political arrangement the Palestinians should agree to” (PDF p.137).
-
In Makdisi’s Coda, Abunimah’s One Country is listed among works on a single state, asking for an alternative that addresses Israeli Jews’ fears and needs while restoring Palestinian rights (Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation, PDF p.351, p.360-361).
-
His praise is printed in Barghouti’s Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions, identified as “author of One Country and cofounder of Electronic Intifada”: Barghouti explains “with lucidity, passion, and unrivaled intelligence… that bringing an end to apartheid in Palestine and seeing justice and equality for all the people who live there is not a distant dream but a reality we can bring about in the next few years using BDS” (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions: The Global Struggle for Palestinian Rights, PDF p.10).
