Summary

Commander of the rebels in the 1936-39 Palestinian revolt whose appeal “To the Jewish people in this country and outside it”, signed at Taibeh in September 1938 and published in Kol Ha’am in March 1939, is reproduced as Appendix 11 of Peace, Peace, When There Is No Peace (Peace, Peace, When There Is No Peace, PDF p.568-570).

Details

  • The appeal states the revolt is a national liberation movement against British imperialism and its ally Zionism, “absolutely not based on religious or racial hatred”, and that Britain and “Anglicizing” Zionist leaders conceal this to mobilize Jews to implement partition and defend British and Zionist interests (PDF p.569).
  • “We hereby advise you to separate from the English and from your leaders who have sold you to England, and not to fight against the Arab national movement… We reject partition, we want to liberate all of Palestine from the yoke of imperialism and to establish an elected democratic government” (PDF p.570).
  • Jews, it promises, “will live in peace just as they lived before the English came”, with safety and freedom guaranteed “as long as you do not act in collaboration with imperialism against us” (PDF p.570).
