Summary
Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon in southern Lebanon, where the Manna family and other refugees from Majd al-Krum and the Galilee lived in exile after their expulsion in 1948–49, until the family’s return by sea in the summer of 1951 (Nakba and Survival, PDF p.12, 15).
Details
- Refugees from Majd al-Krum reached the camp after being expelled in trucks to Wadi ‘Ara and walking to Nablus and Jenin, then travelling through Transjordan and Syria to Lebanon; Manna’s uncle and other Galilee inhabitants had arrived earlier (Nakba and Survival, PDF p.15).
- The family remained in the camp for more than two years; during the exile Manna’s father repeatedly crossed into Israel on foot to visit his mother in Majd al-Krum, where his grandmother and aunts hid him (Nakba and Survival, PDF p.12, 15).
