Summary
Researcher at Al-Haq who edited the volume of papers from its January 1988 international law conference and is quoted by Welchman on interventions and on the organization’s expansion (Al-Haq: A Global History of the First Palestinian Human Rights Organization, PDF p.111, p.121, p.126).
Details
- On expansion: the “rapid and huge expansion of al-Haq” over the second half of the 1980s was “a continuing disaster for al-Haq: the new staffers didn’t get a chance to absorb the ethics of the organization” (PDF p.111).
- The 1988 conference idea “was conceived in 1986 in one of al-Haq’s weekly meetings. Facing yet again a problem of law to which we found no answer, Raja Shehadeh suggested appealing to the world’s experts in the law of war” (PDF p.121).
- On interventions: “It seems obvious now, you write to those responsible and put the case and await a response, on the record. But then, it was really weird” (PDF p.126).
