Summary
One of the chief liturgical books of the Byzantine Church, whose Arabic revision by Niqula Khoury under Keladion became a ground of his dispute with Timotheos (‘The House of the Priest’: A Palestinian Life (1885-1954), PDF p.121-122, note 67).
Details
- The Euchologion contains the parts for priest and deacon at vespers, orthros, the three Divine Liturgies, the rites of sacraments, monastic tonsure, the Blessing of Waters and funerals, and other blessings and canons (editors’ note, PDF p.121).
- In the Memoirs, Khoury completed copying the micro Euchologion, also known as Aghiasmatarion or the concise mega Euchologion, during Keladion’s locum tenency; Keladion asked him to revise its language and content against the original Greek, using Raphael Hawawini’s book (New York, 1913) translated from Russian, adding an appendix of explanations, omitting services findable elsewhere, adding services not in the previous edition, and adding the funeral service for children from the Russian translation (PDF p.121-122).
- When the time came to print, Keladion’s mission had ended and Timotheos was Patriarch; Khoury refused to accept printing under Timotheos’s order, insisting on Keladion’s, which Khoury writes was a cause to expand the dispute between him and the Patriarch (PDF p.122).
