Summary
Palestinian doctor, one of the two friends memorialised in the dedication of The Question of Palestine, who was tortured to death in prison in 1961.
Details
- Haddad was a doctor who lived and died in an Arab country, where Said knew him well for a number of years; more than anyone Said has known, he had the keenest sense of what human injustice was about and of what could be done about it (The Question of Palestine, PDF p.20 / printed p.xix).
- Thoroughly idealistic and selfless, he was tortured to death in prison in 1961, although at the time he died he did what he did as a human being and as a political militant, not necessarily as a Palestinian (The Question of Palestine, PDF p.20 / printed p.xix).
- Said names Haddad and Rashid Hussein as the two men who between them illuminated the Palestinian cause for him (The Question of Palestine, PDF p.6, p.20).
