Summary
Gaza parkour team whose video After Banksy: The Parkour Guide to Gaza (2015) answered Banksy’s mock tourist invitation by treating tourism in Gaza seriously (Invited to Witness — Solidarity Tourism across Occupied Palestine, PDF p.219-222).
Details
- The video opens over Banksy’s kitten — “Banksy says make Gaza your destination” — with Shadia Mansour’s music and a youth backflipping as Israeli bombs explode in the background: “so meet your tour guides” (PDF p.219).
- Member Abdallah AlQassab explains the team could host, feed and share water with a guest despite Israel’s refusal of construction materials, its shutdown of Gaza’s single power plant and Gaza’s undrinkable water (PDF p.220-221).
- The video closes: “But with all of this happening in Gaza, we are here, and alive, and our spirit is very strong. So come, and discover us, and make Gaza your destination” (PDF p.221).
