Details
- Habash was a young, dedicated physician working alongside Spiro Munayar in Lydd’s local hospital during the events of July 1948; Munayar recalled the endless numbers of corpses and the wounded brought in from the scene of the slaughter in the Dahamish Mosque and the streets nearby (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, PDF p.200).
- Pappe writes that these were the same horrible experiences that were to haunt Habash and drive him to take the road of guerilla warfare in order to redeem his town and homeland from those who had devastated it in 1948; he became the founder and leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, PDF p.200).
