Summary
One of the underground terrorist organisations, in Sayegh’s wording, whose existence Britain condoned in Palestine under its alliance with Zionist colonialism, and which later turned against the British as that alliance dissolved.
Details
-
Britain condoned the existence of underground terrorist organisations (the Stern group and the Irgun) while protecting the institutions of the Jewish National Home (Zionist Colonialism in Palestine, PDF p.7 / printed p.212).
-
Towards the end of the British Mandate, the para-military and terrorist Zionist organisations which Britain had respectively aided and condoned for decades turned against the British garrison and British civil authorities in Palestine (Zionist Colonialism in Palestine, PDF p.13 / printed p.218).
-
In Pappe’s Chapter Five, the Irgun and the Stern Group were sent into Deir Yassin on 9 April 1948 because the village’s non-aggression pact with the Haganah made it convenient to absolve the Hagana of accountability (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, PDF p.119); under a tacit Hagana-Irgun division of labour the Irgun expelled Shaykh Muwannis on 30 March 1948 and took the remaining Marj Ibn Amir villages of Sabbarin, Sindiyana, Barieka, Khubbeiza and Umm al-Shauf (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, PDF p.133; PDF p.137-138).
