Summary

Farmer of Izbat Jalud, south of Qalqilya, whose loss of access to his own plot opens Chapter 1, “Outsides”, of Palestine Inside Out (Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation, PDF p.55, p.62-64).

Details

  • Until September 2003 his walk to his plot west of the village took ten minutes; after the wall reached the Qalqilya region it took at least an hour through the Azun Atma gate (PDF p.55).
  • He held the two Seam zone permits he needed from shortly after November 2003, could not bring his tractor, and would have needed a separate permit for a donkey (PDF p.62-63).
  • In the gate-assignment trap of summer 2004 to September 2005 each gate’s soldiers directed him to the other; he lost a year’s crops and worked as a day labourer (PDF p.63-64).
