Summary
The purchasing agency that buys land for the Jewish National Fund and for many public and private Jewish companies, whose agent Mr Hankin gives Simpson the report’s 100,000-dunam estimate of land still acquirable without displacing tenants (Palestine: Report on Immigration, Land Settlement and Development, lines 1129-1133, 1285-1305).
Details
- The Company purchases land for the Jewish National Fund, which places it at the disposal of the Keren Hayesod for settlement; before handover the land is improved by the Jewish National Fund (lines 1125-1129).
- Information from the Company and the Jewish Agency gave Jewish land in Palestine in June 1930 as 1,250,000 dunams, ascertained to be Turkish dunams (lines 1129-1133).
- Its agent Mr Hankin wrote to Simpson on 14 July 1930 that the Company could acquire 100,000 dunams without having to make any settlement for the tenants and without ousting anybody, and that only after that area would arrangements for tenants be necessary; Simpson records Hankin, who had probably a more intimate knowledge of the agricultural land facts than any other Jewish representative, as putting the balance of new land available for settlement at 100,000 dunams at the outside (lines 1289-1305).
