Summary
Palestinian farmer whose affidavit, taken by Raja Shehadeh in January 1982, was probably the first affidavit taken for LSM, setting out Israeli attempts to take over his land (Al-Haq: A Global History of the First Palestinian Human Rights Organization, PDF p.166).
Details
- In defiance of harassment from settlers and the military authorities, he took every legal step he could, including appealing to the Military Objection Committee and the Israeli High Court, but lost most of his farmland to the settlement, although he saved his house (PDF p.166).
- He died in April 2012; Shehadeh, who had kept up with his struggle over the years, wrote: “For me, Sabri’s death marks the end of an era when it was possible to believe that law could save Palestinian land from Jewish settlers” (PDF p.166).
