Summary
Historian described by Pappe in The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine as one of the first to note the significance of Dalet Plan, and one of the first Israeli Jews to challenge the conventional Zionist version of the 1948 events, quoted on both Plan Dalet and the UNSCOP map.
Details
- Flapan, in the words Pappe quotes from him: “‘The military campaign against the Arabs, including the “conquest and destruction of the rural areas” was set forth in the Hagana’s Plan Dalet’.” Pappe adds that the aim of the plan was in fact the destruction of both the rural and urban areas of Palestine (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, PDF p.15-16).
- On the partition map: the almost equal demographic balance within the allocated Jewish state would have created a political nightmare for the Zionist leadership, and, as Flapan put it, had the Arabs or the Palestinians decided to go along with the Partition Resolution, the Jewish leadership would have been sure to reject the map UNSCOP offered them (The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, PDF p.61).
