Summary
Part B of General Assembly Resolution 2535 (XXIV) on UNRWA, adopted at the 1827th plenary meeting on 10 December 1969, which recognizes that the problem of the Palestine Arab refugees has arisen from the denial of their inalienable rights, reaffirms the inalienable rights of the people of Palestine, and requests the Security Council to take effective measures under the Charter to ensure implementation of the return resolutions (Resolution 2535 (XXIV) B: United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (10 December 1969), PDF p.1-2).
Details
- Its preamble lists reported acts aggravating the denial of rights in the occupied territories: collective punishment, arbitrary detention, curfews, destruction of homes and property, deportation and other repressive acts against the refugees and other inhabitants (PDF p.1-2).
- It recalls Security Council resolution 237 (1967) and Assembly resolutions 2252 (ES-V) and 2452 A (XXIII), calling for the return without delay of inhabitants who fled since the outbreak of hostilities (PDF p.2).
- Paragraph 1 reaffirms the inalienable rights without specifying them; the specification (self-determination without external interference, national independence and sovereignty, and return) appears five years later in UN General Assembly Resolution 3236 (PDF p.2).
- Parts A and C of the same resolution, in the same file, handle the annual UNRWA report, the relief rolls and UNRWA’s finances, and emergency assistance to persons displaced in June 1967 (PDF p.1-2).
- The file gives no vote figures.
