Summary
Israeli journalist whose Ha’aretz articles of January 14 and 16, 1979, Said quotes at length for how Israel foresaw security under the Camp David autonomy: continued Israeli control of intelligence, arrests and interrogation.

- Schiff put it, Said says, that Palestinian autonomy will give the Israeli government and army the right to continue the existing security state of affairs more or less indefinitely, and that under Camp David Israel has the right to fight political subversiveness — anything that might advance the likelihood of a Palestinian state coming into being (The Question of Palestine, PDF p.231 / printed p.210).
- In the long passage quoted, Schiff argues the local Palestinian police’s cooperation in arrests should only be formal, and that interrogation in security matters should be left in the hands of the Israeli general security authorities as a fundamental condition (The Question of Palestine, PDF p.231-232 / printed p.210-211).
- Schiff concludes, in Said’s summary of him, that Israel’s security apparatus will therefore “touch upon all aspects of Palestinian life” (The Question of Palestine, PDF p.233 / printed p.212).
