Summary
The researcher to whom the Gaza Ministry of Health privately supplied its dated, district-level casualty database, and whose February 2025 Lancet study Debunking the Genocide Allegations uses both against the ministry’s public claims and for its own capture-recapture estimate (Debunking the Genocide Allegations: A Reexamination of the Israel-Hamas War from October 7, 2023 to June 1, 2025, PDF p.114, p.123, p.126-127).
Details
- Her database, supplied exclusively by GMOH and published as an appendix to her paper, lists identities, dates and locations (by district) of casualties, which the work reads as proof that withholding this information publicly was a deliberate GMOH choice (PDF p.127).
- On that database, the work finds women and children were 61 percent of identified casualties in October 2023 and 57 percent in November 2023, against the 70 percent GMOH reported for both months, with adult men to adult women at 1.63 and 1.83 respectively (PDF p.123, p.127).
- Jamaluddine herself claimed GMOH traumatic-injury deaths were underestimated and the actual toll was much higher — 62,260 people by June 2024 alone; the work declines to address her study’s methodological flaws in this part and notes that no evidence confirming its estimates was found during the January-March 2025 ceasefire (PDF p.127).
- Her GMOH data are also the basis for the work’s Chapter 4 relative-risk assessment of the humanitarian zone (PDF p.114).
