Summary

In the PFLP’s Strategy, the revolutionary theory the party adopts as a basic strategic line: Marxism — dialectical and historical materialism, the theory of surplus value and scientific socialism — completed by Lenin’s application of the method to capitalism in its stage of centralization, monopoly and colonization, and understood as a working guide for analysing living circumstances, not as a fixed, rigid doctrine (Strategy for the Liberation of Palestine, PDF p.111-118).

Details

  • Its validity is said to be established by practice: the October Revolution and the revolutions in China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam and Europe’s socialist countries arose on this theory’s strength, against the collapse of revolutionary attempts not based on it (PDF p.112-113).
  • Mere declaration of adherence has no effect: the Arab communist parties, formally and verbally committed to Marxism-Leninism, could not lead the revolution because their commitment was verbal, their understanding rigid and fossilized, or the theory unapplied to actual living circumstances (PDF p.115-116).
  • The masses are said to judge scientific socialist thought by tangible results, not by theoretical judgement; the prevailing rightist thought among them, and the confusion produced by communist parties’ failures and attitudes toward unity, nationalism and Israel, are the obstacles its sound application must overcome (PDF p.116-117).
