Summary
The Birzeit University center that launched in 2013, under Samia Al-Botmeh, the research program on alternative models for state formation in Palestine from which Rethinking Statehood in Palestine grew (Rethinking Statehood in Palestine, PDF p.12).
Details
- The program explored Palestinian understandings of statehood, democracy and citizenship in view of the Arab uprisings and the failure of the Oslo peace process to bring a viable Two-state solution; a Soros Foundation grant financed six commissioned papers and a survey on Palestinians’ attitudes toward the One-state solution, including Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and those living in Israel (PDF p.12).
- The findings were presented at a conference at Birzeit University in 2015 (PDF p.12).
