Summary

A Haifa-based Palestinian civil society organization, the Arab Center for Applied Social Research, which served as Shourideh Molavi’s institutional base and is the author of The Haifa Declaration (15 May 2007), selections from which are republished in her book’s Appendix II (Stateless Citizenship (2013), PDF p.9-10, p.15-16).

Details

  • Of Molavi’s posts with Haifa-based Palestinian civil society organizations — Mada al-Carmel, Ittijah and Adalah — the longest and most fruitful was with Mada al-Carmel, which served both as an institutional base and an intellectual climate for examining the precarious situation of the Palestinian population in Israel; what began as a four-month internship developed into long-standing friendships and political alliances (PDF p.15-16).

  • Nadim Rouhana of Mada al-Carmel permitted the republication of selections of The Haifa Declaration in the book (PDF p.16).

  • In Chapter 2 of the same book, Mada al-Carmel’s political monitoring work is a recurring source: Mtanes Shihadeh’s Israel and the Palestinian Minority: Political Monitoring Reports and bi-monthly reports are cited for the Acre riots arrests (PDF p.89, footnote 47), for the ‘enemy state’ amendment’s circumvention of the Supreme Court’s Bishara ruling (Shihadeh, at PDF p.92, footnote 53), and, with Sultany, for rejected Arab MKs’ bills and racist remarks against Arabs (PDF p.81, footnote 31; PDF p.86, footnote 41). Its Haifa Declaration is treated in full at PDF p.101-102; see Haifa Declaration.
