Details

  • Dr Mehmed Spaho (1883-1939) was one of the first Bosnian Muslim politicians in what was in the interwar period called the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia), first held ministerial office in 1918, held the Transport ministry in Milan Stojadinović’s government, and died in mysterious circumstances, possibly poisoned by political opponents, in 1939 (editors’ note, PDF p.143).
  • Khoury and al-Ghouri carried a letter from the Mufti to Spaho; he gathered Yugoslav Muslim leaders and presented them, contacted the publishers of the official newspaper Vreme for pictures and an interview, contacted the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Information commending them, and transmitted the letters of recommendation from all of these to the Yugoslav delegation in Geneva (PDF p.143-144).
