Summary
A group of Palestinian politicians, academics, businessmen and activists convened by the Oxford Research Group in 2007-2008, whose report Regaining the Initiative: Palestinian Strategic Options to End Israeli Occupation (August 2008) set out strategic options for ending the occupation, as presented in Chapter 4 of For Palestine — Essays from the Tom Hurndall Memorial Lecture Group (For Palestine — Essays from the Tom Hurndall Memorial Lecture Group, PDF p.82-87).
Details
- The group first met at the Dead Sea, Jordan, with about twenty participants, most from the West Bank; Gazans were not allowed to travel because of the siege (PDF p.83-84).
- The PSSG contends that Israel is not a serious negotiating partner, and that if Israel refuses a genuine two-state outcome Palestinians can block its four preferred alternatives by four linked reorientations, including closing down the 1991 negotiation option, reconstituting the Palestinian Authority, elevating “smart” resistance, and shifting to a single-state goal (PDF p.86).
