A Zionist colony in Palestine, described in Shtetl Colonialism: First and Last Impressions of Indigeneity by Colonised Colonisers as the jewel of the Zionist crown, at which Natan Hofshi recorded disgust at Arabs crossing through it and concluded it became home only once they were not allowed to pass (Shtetl Colonialism: First and Last Impressions of Indigeneity by Colonised Colonisers, PDF p.13 / printed p.51).

Details

  • Hofshi reported back home to Poland how disgusted he was to see many Arab men, women and children crossing through Rishon Lezion, asked whether it had been a terrible mistake to come here and whether this was a foreign country, and noted later that once the Arabs were not allowed to pass through it became home (PDF p.13, note 26 to ‘A Pact with the Land’, p.239).
